Blog and Podcast Update

I just wanted to give you all a quick update on the blog and podcast. As you’ve no doubt noticed, I haven’t been writing or publishing new episodes as regularly as I usually do. If you’ve guessed that has something to do with the recent birth of my daughter Sylvie, you’d be right. 🙂

I feel like I’m just now getting back in the saddle. The plan is to return to a more regular schedule for the podcast and blog. Starting next Tuesday, a new episode of the podcast will be published every other week. Blog articles will be published – for the most part – every other week on either Thursdays or Fridays.

Since I’ve retired The Healthy Skeptic name here on the blog, Danny and I are also planning to rename the podcast. We haven’t settled on a name yet (if you have any ideas, leave them in the comments section.) This won’t affect the feed or your subscription to it. One day you’ll just notice that it has a different graphic and name.

I’ve also got a couple of exciting projects in the works. It’s too early to say much about them, but I can give you a little hint. One is related to weight loss for those who’ve tried everything without success and the other is related to creating your own customized Paleo-type diet – rather than following a canned approach. I’ll keep you posted as they develop!

Happy Fall!

  1. hey guys I have a close friend with high blood pressure he is 27 years old and currently takes 1 pill of karvea 75mg I’ve got him on a paleo diet following Chris kresser’s protocol for blood pressure but am very interested in using your Fasting on him I’ve had him doing time ristricted eating giving him a fast of 14 hours each day and was thinking to start adding a 24 hour fast at end of week would you recommend this as he is on medication and have read you should lower the dose of medication when fasting but I gather that’s only in prolonged fasts 24 hours and up interested to hear back from you as his doctor laughed at him when he mentioned implementing a fasting protocol…any other recommendations or products or possibly online course to help me get my friend back to optimal health would be great thanks

  2. Hi Chris,

I’m from Atlanta Georgia and was hoping if you could recommend a functional medicine doctor in my area..

    Thank you.

  3. We would like to have our Microbiome evaluated. What company do you suggest for this analysis?

  4. Hi Chris, I am from Australia and have been healing myself thanks to you and other new aged medical practitioners especially from the USA, I have been dealing with gut issues, i am still not perfect but i have been making progress. I have decided when i feel better to use ALL the information and knowledge that i have accumulated due to my sickness in helping others that have similar gut issues like histamine intolerance. Would you know what paths may be open to me, do you have practitioner courses available? or any ideas what path to take. I am 46 years old IT Consultant and feel that this is my calling and its not too late to embark on a career change. Thank you

  5. Hello, my name is Michael McIsaac, Kinesiologist with East Coast Kinetics. I wanted to know if I could place a link under the Resources Section of eastcoastkinetics.com so that my clients, and other like-minded professionals, could access your work? I make no profits off of this; I simply want informed consumers to have access to good people that can provide meaningful help and insight. Please let me know your thoughts, and thank you in advance

  6. Just listened to the presentation on You Tube called the connection between SIBO and Methane. I have been tested and I have methane-producing SIBO. I also work in the field of gastroenterology and I know that fecal transplants are being used for people with Crohn’s disease who have chronic C Diff infections, with great success. Some practioners believe fecal transplant may be an effective treatment for other conditions as well. I’d like to know if any research has been done on the application of this treatment for SIBO.

  7. I have a very elevated level of B12 in my blood. Ten months ago it was 1078 and now it is 1485. Could this be caused by a methylation problem?

  8. I was diagnosed with celiac a year ago, consequently I was just diagnosed with SIBO and am in the middle of my Xifaxin course.

My question is should I start a probiotic once I finish the Xifaxin?

If so which one, as most research says to stay away from some of them…..HELP

  9. I am turning to you because I am just about at the end of my rope. (I know I will always make new rope, it just feels like I am)
I have a leaky gut and I am doing as much as I can, but I can not find a truly knowledgeable health care professional to help me. I was wondering if there is someone in my area that you could confidently recommend. I live in Bloomington, IL. Any help that you could give would be appreciated more than I can say.

    Thank you,
    Margaret

  10. Hi Chris. I am male, 43 yo, hyperuricemic, have had low serum insulin since forever and now have my early-morning FBG levels in the 80s and 90s…no family history of diabetes. Late-morning/weekend FBG levels are always lower. My FBG had climbed passed 100 a couple of months ago but now have lowered it through moderate low to carbs. Even took it to 77 on a day….trying to figure out what I ate the previous day. Have lost 24lbs in 3 months. Need your help with low-carb vs moderate-carb vs paleo for low insulin levels and hyperuricemia.

    Thanks a million

  11. Good day,

    My name is Alexander

My left and partial of the right Thyroid was removed about 5 years ago due to inflammation and n nodule.

My thyroid is underactive and I am skinny, I have no body fat and have lost my appetite. I can go weeks without eating.

When I do have an appetite I can eat so much yet my body does not absorb any food intake or medication

Ever since I have been to specialist and were admitted to Hospital numeral times fore severe infection and we can’t find the corporate, my body has to try and fight infection every 2de day, I have lost so much weight due to not having an appetite and wake up every night wet and have to change the sheets and my clothing.

Worst part is the Dr only treats my Thyroid and I am using 2.5 mg Eltroxin and my levels still are alleviated in the 30 mIU/1

My body does not absorb the eltroxin or convert it.

I have no libido at all, I am tiered all the time these days I have eye problem

I Went last week for a PET scan and they found flued in my appendix and my spleen is bulky, FDG uptake is noted involving the ascending colon.
Lymph nodes in head and neck do not seem to be cancer and only to be reactive.

FDG uptake is noted involving the right Thyroid lobe diffusely (SUV MAX = 2.39)

My bladder is with in normal limits

    Ultra sound
    The right Thyroid measure +- 5.1 x 2.9 x 2.4

I am not Dr yet everything pin points to autoimmune disease, I don’t know why the Dr can’t see this.
The treatment on the thyroid only is not helping as the medicine is not working, at this stage I am about to give up my body is so swore and tiered, my mind is strong it’s only my body just don’t want to recuperate.

I don’t even know how a normal person should feel.

There is something we are missing and we cant find anything in blood test.

    Kind Regards
    Alex

  12. Thank you so much for the eBooks and information about a personalized, alternative approach to optimal health.
My interest is pursuing a certification or degree in functional nutrition. Because I do not hold a degree in any medical field, I am unable to enroll in your institute. Can you recommend another education path to learn more about functional diagnostic nutrition? Located in Virginia, for the past 20 years, I have owned a fitness studio, instructing and training clients to embrace a healthy lifestyle. All help appreciated!

  13. Hello. I have a general question / comment that I hope somebody might be able to respond to regarding intestinal permeability (leaky gut). After connecting the dots following a number of different signs over the past several months(particularly a very intense episode with a powerful viral infection that may have been a contributing environmental trigger), I have a rather strong suspicion that my child has intestinal permeability / leaky gut.
However, in addition to adjusting her diet appropriately, I also feel it is important to know if there is indeed, currently, some sort of intestinal infection (bacterial / fungus / yeast / parasite, etc.) going on so I can make sure to address this in order for the change in her diet to actually help with the leaky gut.
In sum, my QUESTION is the following: – WHAT test (stool sample, urine, blood, etc.) would be best to check for an infection of some sort in the intestine and WHO (type of doctor) should I see to perform such a test???
Any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated indeed!

  14. Just received an email recommending 14FOUR. Sounds like a perfect kick-start program but before I buy it can anyone tell me if it would be UNsuitable for someone with a mild neurological problem.
I’ve been looking at the Wahls protocol (tho I don’t have MS)

    Thank you

    Anna

  16. Hi there,

I have a quick question regarding stomach pain and napping. I wake up from naps with uncomfortable pain in my stomach along with a bloated and full feeling. It usually doesn’t go away until the next day. It is definitely worse if I eat before napping, but the symptoms are also there if I don’t eat right before a nap.

I would appreciate any comments regarding this.

    Thank you!

    • I would also like to add that I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and Hypothyroidism about 3 years ago. I’m not sure if this is at all related, but I thought it might be relevant.

      Thank you!

  17. Hi Chris ‘n friends,

since nearly a year I am now on a Paleo diet. My skin problems did disappear and most of food reactions are gone. So far I am happy. However, for over 9 months now I am suffering lower back pain which no doctor could help me with. It is one sided only, quite persistent but coming and going, it does not worsen with any activity (even gardening). Anyhow, since I never had this before, I would also like to be free of this pain again. I sometimes wonder, if the diet has to do with it …? I am really eating at least five times more meat than before …

    Thank you soo much!

  18. I read with great interest your article about UTI’s and the possibility that biofilms might be the cause of frequent recurrences. Your recommendation for the use of biofilm disruptors “Interfase Plus” and “Biofilm Defense” left me asking how much to take and how long it takes to destroy the biofilm.

  19. Hi Chris, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in the year 2011 by an endo. He didn’t explain anything to me about the disease & simply put me on Thyrox (25mg) stating that I’ll have to take the medications for the rest of my life. My dose has now increased to 50mg & I’ve a lot of body weight which doesn’t go away whatever I do. After my delivery in Dec 2012 I was diagnosed with Tennis Elbow & Ankylosing Spondylitis for which I was given NSAIDs & pain killers which didn’t gave me any relief & I sought alternate treatments for my problems. I browsed the net & bumped into a website called Mind Body Green through which I came to know that wheat, corn & soy cause inflammation in the body which causes various lifestyle diseases such as Hypothyroid, Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis & lot more. So I started my journey of self medication through diet & lifestyle changes by reading & implementing Dr. William Davis, Dr. Perlmutter & now Dr. Chris Kresser. I’ve reaped the benefits in the form of weight loss, reduced pain in joints & backache & tailbone etc. & most importantly I am not taking any of the pain killers & NSAIDs although I am still taking my medication for Hypothyroid. The main issue that I am facing till now is that I am religiously vegetarian (I am a Jain) & cannot eat meat even if my life depended on it which means I need to find a substitute for meat in vegetarian food items. I also need to find out which Hypothyroid I am affected with, Hashimoto’s or graves or if it’s an Iodine deficient Hypothyroid? Can you please help me out Chris?
