UTIs can be caused by poor hygiene, impaired immune function, the overuse of antibiotics, the use of spermicides, and sexual intercourse. The most common cause, accounting for about 90 percent of all cases, is the transfer of Escherichia coli bacteria from the intestinal tract to the urinary tract.
For those of you who have experienced a UTI, there isn’t much you wouldn’t do to avoid another one. While I personally have never had a UTI, my patients have told me how symptoms like pain, burning, nausea, and even bloody urine can be debilitating, and for those who get chronic UTIs, the fear of infection can be enough to prevent engagement in any activities that could trigger one. For people who get them frequently, sometimes a specific cause cannot even be pinpointed. This can be frustrating and scary.
Fortunately, there are a few methods of natural UTI treatment and prevention that have worked extremely well for my patients, to the point where they no longer worry about getting a UTI.
These treatments don’t require a prescription, are inexpensive, and are completely drug-free. While your doctor may not know about them, I hope this article will help you completely avoid UTIs—or at least significantly reduce their frequency and severity. I recommend working with a Functional Medicine practitioner who is focused on treating the root cause of your UTIs.
UTIs can be debilitating, but it is possible to get relief without requiring a prescription. Check out this article for five ways to cure UTIs without antibiotics. #functionalmedicine #wellness #chriskresser
What Is the Standard Treatment for a UTI?
Doctors typically use antibiotics to treat UTIs, and the type and duration depend on your health condition and the type of bacterium found in your urine. (2) Commonly prescribed antibiotics are:
- Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim)
- Amoxicillin
- Ampicillin
- Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
These antibiotics are often unnecessary and may cause more problems in the future by destroying the beneficial bacteria that prevent pathogenic bacteria from growing. Long-term use of antibiotics can also lead to antibiotic resistance in strains of bacteria like E. coli in the gut, and a UTI caused by these bacteria will be even more challenging to eliminate and can cause more serious issues like a kidney or bladder infection.
Furthermore, antibiotics do very little to prevent the infection from happening in the first place. So, while drugs may be an easy fix for the short term, in the long run, you will continue to be susceptible to UTIs, and these infections may be worse than if you had never taken a course of antibiotics in the first place!
Curing and Preventing UTIs Naturally: D-Mannose
Treating UTIs with D-Mannose
D-mannose is by far the most effective supplement for both treatment and prevention of UTIs. Similar to glucose in structure, D-mannose is a naturally occurring sugar that is found in a number of fruits, including apples, blueberries, and cranberries. (3) This sugar is the reason that cranberry juice has been commonly recommended as a UTI treatment, though it is far easier to get the recommended dosage from a supplement. D-mannose is effective because it attaches to E. coli bacteria, causing them to stick to each other and preventing them from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. (4) The bacteria can then easily be eliminated from the body during urination.
D-mannose, even in large quantities, does not cause any adverse effects, and cannot be metabolized the way other sugars can, meaning this supplement is safe for people with diabetes and others who are avoiding sugar for any reason. This treatment is also safe for children and the elderly.
Symptom relief can be seen as quickly as the following day, and most symptoms of UTI are generally resolved after 48 hours of treatment. Additionally, taking D-mannose during a time where you feel you are most prone to UTIs, such as before intercourse or during prolonged antibiotic treatment, can help prevent a UTI from ever developing in the first place. This is especially helpful for those who are prone to chronic UTIs and want to be able to engage in normal life activities without fear of infection.
The typical dose of D-mannose for UTI treatment is 500 mg, in capsule or powder form, taken with or in a glass of water or juice every two to three hours for five days. It is a good practice to continue taking the supplement even after symptoms have diminished to ensure complete elimination of the bacteria in the urinary tract. This dose can also be taken as a preventive, or prophylactic, method.
While there has not been any peer-reviewed research to support the effectiveness of D-mannose in treating or preventing UTIs, clinical and anecdotal experience suggests it is highly effective for the majority of infections, both acute and chronic. Some of my patients who have used D-mannose as a UTI treatment method have even described its effects as “miraculous”—so it’s definitely worth a shot!

Four Alternative Treatments for Chronic UTIs
One caveat with D-mannose is that it is only effective with UTIs caused by E. coli infection. While this accounts for about 90 percent of cases, 10 percent will not benefit from this treatment. In this case, supplements that help disrupt biofilms can be useful in treating and preventing UTIs.
Biofilms are an accumulation of microorganisms and their extracellular products forming structured communities attached to a surface such as the lining of the urogenital tract. (5) The development of a biofilm can make infections extremely hard to treat, since they commonly return shortly after treatment is stopped.
The antibacterial resistance of pathogenic biofilms is one of the major reasons why those who get a UTI are highly susceptible to getting more in the future—if the biofilm is not completely eliminated, the infection will eventually return at some point.
1. InterFase Plus and Biofilm Defense
This is why the use of biofilm disruptors can be helpful for preventing the recurrence of chronic UTIs. The biofilm disruptors that I recommend to my patients are InterFase Plus from Klaire Labs or Biofilm Defense from Kirkman. These contain specialized enzymes to disrupt the biofilm matrix embedding potential of pathogens, and dissolve the sugar and fibrin components of most pathogenic biofilms. By destroying the biofilms, the recurrence of UTIs despite proper hygiene can be reduced. (6)
2. Lauricidin
Lauricidin is another supplement that may help in treating UTIs, particularly those that are caused by types of bacteria other than E. coli. Lauricidin (a proprietary form of monolaurin) has antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activity, and is specific against pathogenic bacteria so it won’t disrupt beneficial bacteria in the gut. It is highly effective at combating gram-positive bacteria in the families of: (7)
- Streptococcus
- Staphylococcus
- Corynebacterium
- Listeria
- Bacillus
- Clostridium
It works by disturbing the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane, blocking replication and making it easier for the immune system to destroy the pathogen. Lauricidin is only helpful, however, for UTIs not caused by E. coli, which is gram-negative and has a different kind of outer cell membrane than gram-positive bacteria.
3. Nattokinase
Nattokinase is another enzyme that has been shown to dissolve biofilms. (8) Produced by the bacteria found in the fermented food natto, this enzyme is proteolytic and can help break down the fibrin proteins that maintain the structure of biofilms.
Because of its fibrin-breaking ability, it’s important that nattokinase supplements are not taken by people with bleeding disorders, or by people who are taking Coumadin (warfarin), aspirin, or any other drug that influences blood clotting, unless supervised by a physician.
4. Apolactoferrin
Apolactoferrin (or lactoferrin) is one more supplement that I recommend to my patients with recurrent UTIs. This multifunctional protein lactoferrin is a component of the immune system with antimicrobial activity, and is part of the innate defense, found mainly in secretions and mucosal surfaces. (9)
Lactoferrin has been shown to block pathogenic biofilm development by binding to iron and causing the bacteria to “wander” across surfaces instead of forming cell clusters and biofilms. (10, 11) One study found that the amount of E. coli bacteria in the kidneys and bladder of mice was significantly reduced 24 hours after oral lactoferrin treatment, compared to a control group. (12) More research is necessary to demonstrate the effectiveness of lactoferrin in treating UTIs, but I believe it is worth trying, especially if dealing with chronic UTIs.
Better supplementation. Fewer supplements.

I have had on and off UTIs since surgery about 10 years ago. I can only assume I picked up some resistant drug in the hospital. I have had antibiotics numerous times and although they seem to work, they only seem to keep the bacteria at bay. It is my feeling that they just linger waiting for me to allow myself to get dehydrated or for my immune system to be taxed in some way and then BANG another UTI. This last time I said, no more antibiotics and I had been treating with baking soda, lemon juice and water concoction which works as a temporary measure but does not seem to clear it up. I read you forum here before the latest infection and read about the grapefruit seed extract. (I have been told in the past my infection is not E. Coli) I bought some and it seems to be working, though when I take it, it seems to get worse before getting better. (there was also a strong smell of bread – which I assume is yeast in my urine) My question. Should I be taking the Olive Leaf too, or stick with just the grapefruit seed, and for how long? BTW after 5 days, urine is completely clear, but I am still taking it.
Sorry resistant bug, not drug….
You NEED olive leaf! It and raw garlic are nature’s broad-spectrum antibiotics; nothing else really holds a candle to them when it comes to pure pathogen-killing power. GFSE can be a useful adjunct, but it won’t kill an infection by itself, not even close.
Olive leaf also kills yeast like a boss; it’ll take care of all that for you. Get Vitacost, Nature’s Way, Solaray, or Swanson Extra Strength.
Do NOT buy Gaia, Herbal Factors, Nature’s Plus, or anything else that doesn’t have at least 15% oleuropein, olive leaf’s active ingredient.
Build up from one olive leaf per meal to 4, over the course of about 5 days. You’ll likely have yeast die-off, for which you can take activated charcoal in between doses of olive leaf. Take olive leaf until all your die-off and UTI symptoms are gone, then use a home test strip. Keep going with 4 (500 mg) olive leaf capsules per meal, and 2-4 before bed until the home test has been clear every morning for 3 days, then begin to slowly taper back down like you built up.
Take 1000 mg of olive leaf with dinner every day as preventive maintenance; it’s the best thing you can do for your overall health, as well.
I was so excited to find this conversation! This means the world to me. I have suffered so much. I can only get loose leaf olive leaf from pacific botanicals right now. I hope that is good enough?
The important part is the oleuropein content; that’s the active ingredient in olive leaf. It should be labeled “olive leaf extract” and it should tell you the percentage of oleuropein it contains.
You want between 15-20%. Plain olive leaf with no oleuropein content listed is completely useless. Gaia is one of those useless brands, and Nature’s Way sells both useless olive leaf, and good olive leaf extract; you MUST read the label closely.
If in doubt, e-mail me pics of the label at [email protected] and I’ll check it out.
Hi there ,
My mom has urine infection problem since 8years it comes and goes every six months or so. Every time she gets episodes of UTIs Dr give her antibiotics and it does work for the time being but the problem comes back after couple of months. Please recommend something she is suffering alot. Many thanks.
Hello Everyone,
If someone can help me please!! I started feeling the symptoms of a UTI again and took Bactrim that I had and while I was on my 8th day it gave me a severe allergic reaction, so I had to stop it. Usually the UTI that I get is (klebsiella) and my symptoms are the urgency and weird sensation in my bladder, also some back right kidney pain. After I had to stop the antibiotics I was still feeling some of the symptoms, so I found this website and I bought from Amazon (OLE 750mg with 20% ole from Vitalite) I have been taking between 6-9 per day and today is almost 2 weeks and some days I feel my symptoms improve a little, but since last night I feel as if my symptoms have gotten worse. I have also taken some garlic and some turmeric here and there because I can’t tolerate the smell. I don’t know if I have too much candida in my gut from taking antibiotics for many years with the UTI issues. I also started taking The Interfase Plus (maybe since 4 days). Does anyone think something is not right or I should be taking something else. I also went ahead and ordered the cayenne and I should get it in 2 days. Thank you so much evryone.
With those capsules, you’re getting 150 mg of oleuropein each, and you want to take around 1200-1500 mg oleuropein per day to kill an infection. It’s also important to make sure you take a whopping dose right before bed, for an entrenched or recurring infection, so it can’t recover overnight.
You didn’t mention anything about having yeast die-off symptoms during any of this..and when someone doesn’t have that I wonder about the potency of their supplement. Just about everyone has enough yeast in their system to feel like crap when they first take good, strong olive leaf; I was sick as a dog for 36 hours and I’d only ever been on antibiotics once, for a very short time.
I helped a lady who’d had a Klebsiella infection for 4 yrs; she was cured in a week with a protocol of cayenne, olive leaf, and raw garlic.
Omg Bekah, you truly are an angel sent from heaven, I have been reading all of your comments to other people throughout this whole process. I forgot to mention that I have had the die-off symptoms indeed. The first day I took 3 caps at once and I got a horrible headache, I have gotten nausea, I have lost my appetitem. After almost 2 weeks is that I have been able to take 3 caps together and with food to avoid the symptoms. The first week I had to take 2 each time with food. So definitely I should get a different one. Which one in particular would you recommend? I saw one on Amazon from Sawnson that says 500mg and 75mg of oleu.
Ahhh..well that’s good then, because it means your olive leaf works!
What you need to add is activated charcoal; you take it in between olive leaf doses and that soaks up the toxins causing the misery, and voilà! No more yeast die-off symptoms. That way, you can take big doses of olive leaf to crush the yeast AND the UTI, and still live your life. You can keep taking what you have until it’s gone, and Swanson is good (that’s 15% oleuropein) and Vitacost is excellent (18% oleuropein).
Swanson makes activated charcoal, and you can probably find it at your local store; it’s an old-fashioned remedy for stomach/gut issues, and they use it in ER’s for cases of poisoning. It’s *that* good.
The key is to take it 2 hours after the olive leaf, and wait 2 more hours before taking the next dose of olive leaf. Eat when you take the olive leaf and fast in between; the charcoal needs to be in your gut with water ONLY. No food, no supplements.
You need lots of water, drink a big glass of it when you take the charcoal.
Feel free to e-mail me if you need to get in contact quickly; the comment notification system here is unreliable sometimes.

Thank you so much Bekha. I will keep taking the OLE and I will buy the charcoal. On Friday I will try the cayenne. I hope it works fast.
Can we take Olive leaf extract , activated charcoal, baking soda and garlic clove all together?.
How many times in a day I have to take baking soda with plain water?.
Can I take baking soda on regular basis without side effects?
Can I take garlic cloves on regular basis without any side effects?
What precaution I have to take during this above natural treatment?.
How cayennne will help to cure UTI?
Thank Bekah for giving your valuable time for us
Do NOT take activated charcoal with anything but water; it will render your supplements ineffective.
It MUST be taken separately, in the middle of a 4 hour fasting window between meals and supplements. That’s how it adsorbs the yeast toxins but doesn’t interfere with the action of the supplements.
Eat when you take the olive leaf, garlic, and cayenne, wait two hours and take the charcoal, wait two more hours and then eat again and take your supplements.
Side effects of garlic: Lower LDL cholesterol, and garlic breath
After your UTI is dead, don’t take more than 2 cloves per day on a regular basis, so you don’t strain your kidneys on the sulphur. Short periods of higher intake to kill an infection are okay, especially since you’re drinking extra water to flush out your bladder. Raw garlic cleanses your liver, so you’ll probably have soft, dark stools for two days after you start taking it.
Side effects of olive leaf: lower blood pressure
Very safe and non-toxic, can be taken daily indefinitely.
Baking soda: 1/2 tsp in 8 oz of water may be taken safely 3x a day unless you have a problem with sodium/water retention. Those 3x can be taken in fairly rapid succession if you’re trying to reduce severe UTI pain, quickly. Otherwise, save it for after a dose of raw garlic; it softens the impact on your stomach and cures nausea. Also, deodorizes the garlic somewhat.
For regular daily water drinking, add lemon juice to gently raise your pH and flush your kidneys.
The capsaicin in cayenne kills many types of UTI pathogens; it seems to be mostly effective against gram negative bacterial strains like E. coli, Klebsiella, and Proteus. It also thins your blood, increases circulation, and kills the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers.
I am suffering from low blood pressure (100/60) and sometime it is (95/ 55) .
Is I have to take some extra precaution during this treatment?
Thanks Bekah,
Really I don’t have words for express that how kind person you are
Baking soda water tends to increase your blood pressure due to the sodium, so those may cancel each other out when it comes to affecting your BP. Also, you should be drinking a lot more water, overall, during a UTI, so that brings your pressure up.
The fastest way to bring your BP up when it’s dipping that low is to *get moving*. I had a couple of really bad low BP events during one of my pregnancies, and I had to force myself to walk, holding onto things because I was dizzy. I kept walking until it was all better, and then started walking regularly to keep it up. If you’re worried about your BP, do a set of jumping jacks several times a day; get your heart thumping and your blood moving. Drink lots of water, put a dash of baking soda in it 5x a day, and move, move, move! Be proactive about it and you shouldn’t have any problems.
My pleasure. 🙂
Go on the candida diet for at least 2 weeks and take D-Mannose 9 capsules of 500 mg a day. It will work.
Where do you get that at
hello brother has ms diagnosis but he has some kind of bacteria infecction related disease they just called it MS got uti ath the moment been k for few years just come back now any suggestions
Bekah,
I have my daughter who is 6 yrs. old that gets UTI’s due to wiping incorrectly at times. She gets embarrassed, and sometimes doesn’t tell me she “hurts” till she has an accident or her behavior becomes increasingly sensitive, that gives me clues something is wrong. She has a history of seeing a Nephrologist for Hydronephrosis. She got the all clear, and now only sees a urologist once a year or for a uti. She does not have consistent UTI’s, only when she is too busy to remember to wipe correctly. My guess this would be an infection of ecoli. What is your recommendation for her? I know you you possibly can’t give dosages for children, but I can assume a half dose from an adults. I am thinking of D-mannose.
You need even less than half an adult’s dose, thankfully!
D-mannose will help if she has E. coli, but the best thing would be to get olive leaf extract with 15-20% oleuropein, and give that to her a few times a day. If you can find 250 mg ones at your local health food store, just open one into 4 oz of water, stir, and give that to her 3x a day. That will kill her infection really fast; if you get UTI test strips at a drug store you can test her and watch the levels drop. Keep giving it 3x a day till she’s tested clear for 3 days, then give it twice a day for 5 days, then every night before bed on a regular basis. It will also prevent many childhood illnesses.
Hi, I have read several of your feedback and I haven’t been able to find any reference to how to use InterFase Plus. Do you use it in conjuction with other methods? I bought it but don’t know what to do. I have gram positive bacteria, that’s all my urine culture says, I have tried
cranberry
cranberry and dmannose
baking soda and cranberry
raw garlic and cranberry
oregano oil, cranberry,
Thank you for all your feedback
Cranberry and d-mannose ONLY help with one type of gram-negative bacteria, they have *zero* effect on gram positive bacteria, so you might as well stop taking them.
For gram positive bacteria, your best weapons are olive leaf extract and raw garlic.
Vitacost brand olive leaf is my favorite; it’s 18% oleuropein, 500 mg..
It will kill your infection, but it also kills any yeast you have in your intestines, so you’ll need activated charcoal to help you deal with that. Alternate them so they’re two hours apart each time, and eat when you take the olive leaf and do NOT eat between meals. Drink lots of water with some lemon juice squeezed into it, and make sure to drink a large glass of water when you take charcoal (2 capsules) and another large glass half an hour later.
Do you take 2 caps of activated charcoal each time? Also how long should this regime go on?
Take the olive leaf/raw garlic/cayenne alternated with charcoal until all the yeast die-off and UTI symptoms are gone, then test with home UTI test strips. Continue full regimen of everything (except the charcoal, that’s only for yeast die-off) for 3 full days after the symptoms are gone and the test is clear, then begin to slowly taper down over the course of a week, to a preventive maintenance level of 2 olive leaf capsules with dinner, daily.
I have had recurring UTI’s most of my adult life. My last one was in Aug 2015. I try to avoid antibiotics as much as possible so when I found this article, I figured it was worth a try. I started with the D-Mannose and took it every 2-3 hours as recommended and with pure cranberry juice. After about a week my symptoms hadn’t improved so I gave Lauricidin a try. Well wouldn’t you know, after a couple days my symptoms were gone!!! Wow! So happy and almost surprised how well this worked.
Hi!
(Just e-mailed Bekah but posting here in case it doesn’t go through on e-mail!)
First of all thank you for being so available and willing to offer help to people suffering from UTI’s! That’s wonderful of you.
I’m 26 years old, have been prone to getting UTI’s since age 20, and currently have a UTI that is proving difficult to beat.
I started a relationship in August and after 6 years of painful sex and getting UTI’s I was tired of living with fear so I started taking the antibiotic Nitrofuroantin prophylactically–so, once after sex. I didn’t take it a ton this Fall because I was already dealing with pain which prevented me from having much sex, but when I did have sex I took it, and had no UTI’s. I did however have yeast and bacterial vaginosis. I was away from my boyfriend for a month, but saw him on Saturday, had sex, didn’t take the antibiotic because I wanted to see if I’d be alright if I drank water, peed, took vitamin C, Uva Ursi, Cranberry, etc…. got really bad UTI symptoms Sunday…started taking the Nitrofuroantin I had on hand. Yesterday was still not feeling well so I went to the doctor where they gave me Ciproflaxicin. I’ve now taken three Cipro and am feeling just as bad as I was on Sunday. Every day I’ve been taking goldenseal, cayenne, Uva Ursi, cranberry, juniper berries, echinacea, and probably other things I’m forgetting about right now.
When my urine culture comes back I’m afraid they’ll tell me I need to take another different antibiotic. I hate taking antibiotics because I already have such a sensitive stomach and I’m probably wrecking it but I also can’t stand the pain and wanted to get rid of the UTI as quickly as possible. Of course–that’s not working.
I started taking enzymes and lactoferrin a couple months ago….and was taking candida cleanse capsules for a couple months. I’ve tried autoimmune diets because I have a lot of symptoms that seem like they would be ameliorated by that.
I’m at that point where I’m totally overwhelmed by a cycle of stomach issues, vaginal and urethral infections and I can’t set myself straight on what I should or should not be taking anymore.
Other than just asking for advice I am also curious—– would taking activated charcoal while being on an antibiotic be OK?
Is it true that drinking baking soda can interfere with antibiotics? What about taking probiotics while taking antibiotics?
Thank you so so much for your time, care, and advice.
Got it last night, and replied!
The e-mail notification for this comment only just came through a minute ago, though.
Hello,
I suffer from frequent UTI’s this article was extremely helpful. I do have a question however. Because I do not know what kind of bacteria is creating my UTI’s what sort of combination of the recommended supplements should I take? Should I take D-mannose with InterFase Plus and Lauricidin? Can you take them all together? As a preventative is it good to take one a day (of just the d-mannose or of all of them)?
Any ideas for an alternative to olive leaf extract for those with low blood pressure, Bekah?
Apparently it reduces it and is not recommend for those who already have low blood pressure. Mine is very low and I’m symptomatic anyway with dizziness. I’m only taking 1 or 2 x 750 mg of OLE at the minute and can’t say I’ve been feeling much different, although I’m concerned if I keep taking it it will get lower. Any thoughts on an alternative?
Well, everything I can think of off the top of my head, that’s effective, has that slight effect (these natural things are so darn healthy!:), but mine hovers around 105/68 all the time and I’ve taken 6000 mg a day of olive leaf over a prolonged period without noticing ill effects, if that helps.
Do you know if the sickness with OLE will pass? After saying I wasn’t having any, I started getting some and panicked — started worrying it was something other than the OLE so stopped it to make sure it wasn’t. Sure enough, sickness stopped but urinary symptoms came back feeling like building to a flare. Symptoms haven’t been perfect while taking the cayenne, OLE and charcoal, but have been so much better. I started on the regime after a couple of days off starting with the cayenne for a day — not much improvement, then took 1 x 750 mg OLE and wow, 90% better within 30 minutes. So it’s that which seems to be key for me, but the nausea is back and I am still concerned about the blood pressure issue somewhat.
Is there any way to lessen the nausea? How long before it should stop? Thanks
Yes! Activated charcoal soaks up those toxins so you can kill yeast all day long and feel fine! It should be at any local health food store. Take 2 capsules 2 hours after taking olive leaf, wait 2 more hours and then eat and take more olive leaf, and do NOT eat in between. The charcoal has to be taken in the middle of a 4 hour fasting window in between olive leaf doses.
It’s like a vacuum, and you don’t want it to get clogged with food or your supplements; you want it to just be sucking up the yeast toxins. Your die-off symptoms start vanishing within half an hour of taking charcoal; it’s amazing.
If you feel really bad, you can take one charcoal capsule immediately and take two at the 2 hour mark.
I have actually been using activated charcoal, but not consistently.
I have just taken it (2 caps) though following feeling very sick about an hour after taking the olive leaf (750 mg), and it has helped but not completely.
It seems that sometimes I get nauseous with the olive leaf and other times don’t. Yesterday I split my doses, so I took approx. 375 mg in the morning and the same at lunch. No sickness. In the evening I felt the symptoms stirring up again so opted for 750 mg, and it seemed to take the symptoms away with no nausea. But this morning I’ve had 750 mg and I feel awful.
I think I’ll keep taking at 375 for about a week before increasing the dose, and see if I ever feel sick at this dosage. Hopefully I can then increase to about 500 and upwards from there if need be.
Do you have much experience advising people with only low-grade infections? I feel that this is what might must be, so I’m wondering if a low dose for a longer period of time might be in order.
What you need to do is go ahead and take the larger doses, because this thing will drag out forever on you, otherwise. What you do to minimize the discomfort is you take the bigger dose of olive leaf and then take 1 charcoal capsule and 8 oz of water at the *first sign* of nausea, wait 15 minutes and drink a glass of baking soda water (1/2 tsp in 8 oz water) then take 2 charcoal capsules and 12 oz water at the 2 hour mark.
Do the same thing after your next dose, drinking a glass of baking soda water for the nausea when necessary. It works in less than 10 minutes.
The charcoal is absolutely vital to getting all the yeast out of you quickly; it not only mitigates your die-off symptoms by soaking up the yeast toxins, it kills and removes living yeast, too. As a matter of fact, I’ve had several women with significant intestinal yeast fast for most of a day, taking only charcoal and drinking water to remove large amounts of yeast quickly and painlessly.
The yeast acts like a buffer for your UTI, and as long as you still have enough yeast to cause die-off, your olive leaf isn’t getting into your bladder in sufficient quantities to kill the UTI.
Take a baseball bat to this thing with the olive leaf and charcoal, and you’ll be completely healed in less than a week.
Hello!
I know that people have probably already answered this, and I know that many people have the same problem. However, ever since I was little, I’ve had problems with UTIs. When I was young, they would be caused by baths. As I’ve gotten older and have become sexually active, they occur every single time after intercourse.
I feel like I’m always at the doctor with a UTI, and I always feel like they think I’m wasting their time. I’m tired of always getting UTIs.
I have tried every single common method of UTI prevention through my own research and through doctor recommendations, including changing my underwear, urinating as soon as I feel the need to, wiping front to back, avoiding baths, drinking a lot of water throughout the day, drinking a ton of cranberry juice that was recommended by my doctor, taking cranberry supplements from many different brands, drinking cranberry concentrate with D-Mannose, etc.
I have gone to see urologists to come up with a prevention method as well. They usually prescribe me something, but it never works.
Nothing ever works, no matter what I do. I still get UTIs after intercourse.
I currently have one now, and I really do not want to go to the doctor. I hate taking antibiotics for them because they make me extremely ill for a few days.
My question is for others who have gone through the same thing or something similar, do you have any advice on what I can do?
Thank you so much in advanced!
Honestly, for me, Lauricidin worked like a charm. Why don’t you try that for a week and see? I haven’t had a UTI since I treated my last one (Aug/15) with Lauricidin. I didn’t have any success with D-Mannose but some ppl do. Like the article says, it depends on the bacteria but Lauricidin is a great product. Personally, I’d use it first the next time I get a UTI….hopefully I never do haha
hi…i have chronic recurrent bladder infections…currently i have been diagnosed with an e-coli infection…i really do not want to do another round of antibiotics…i need to find an alternative solution to this situation for better health for myself…i am very interested in trying d-mannose and i am hoping for a recommendation on what brand to buy… i have done a little research on it and it seems that a vast majority of brands get their raw material from china…i do not have a lot of faith in food or supplements that come from china…do you have a brand that you recommend that has proven to be effective against e-coli?…if it comes from china but has rigorous standards for purity and works, i would definitely consider it…many, many thanks for any help and suggestions that you may offer…

thank you for this, i will look into it…
The NOW brand worked for me for a couple of years. It’s not quite as good now. It has worked for my mother in law for 1.5 years.
thanks for the recommendation!
Hi. I’m battling my 3rd uti after having hysterectomy surgery in January. This time I only had 2 weeks of peace in between infections. Which of your protocols would possibly work for me? I’ve been taking cranberry supplements every day for over a month, drinking the juice and taking antibiotics when infection is present. I just tried the cayenne/honey and it was pretty hard to take. I’m worried that I’ll have chronic uti’s and am getting pretty bummed out.
I am so disappointed this morning after doing my first test strip for UTIs. I didn’t even have to wait the allotted minutes because it went up to the highest colors right away. I used the cayenne capsules for 2 days and then went to the olive leaf/charcoal and got up to 4 olive leaf caps for two days and then did my test. I started with one OL cap and added one each day (3 meals) till I got to 4 and did that for 2 days. I had hopes that my UTI would be clear and then would only have to start the maintenance doses. I am also not feeling all that well generally; too tired and logey. What should I be doing because I am thinking the doctor will want a urine test to see if her prescription of anitbiotics worked and she has no idea I never took them. Before I hear from you I am going to start the cayenne caps again this morning.
Are you taking Gaia brand olive leaf, by any chance? Or Nature’s Plus?
Those two are absolutely useless.
Immediately take raw garlic, chopped into little pieces and swallowed with water like pills, no chewing. Drink a glass of baking soda water, 1/2 tsp in 8 oz of water. This will begin to bring your infection under control immediately.
E-mail me if you like, [email protected].
It took me 5 tries to get to your comment to reply; this comment system seems to get buggy after a while.
Thanks again for your reply. I will do the garlic thing with the special water. How often do I do this? The brand of olive leaf I have (and will get more delivered tomorrow) is Ameriden (Ameriden.com). Do I still take some more cayenne?
I also just found on the web what I suspected and that is my acid reflux is from my hiatal hernia so I have had a terrible cough for the last 5 years. Do you think it is okay to take silver along with all the other things for a UTI plus all the supplements I take? Doctors just don’t get it.
Well, according to the info on the website, that olive leaf should be working for you..but you’re still sick so *something* isn’t right.
When all else fails you, keeping your pH up will discourage the pathogens and keep your symptoms in check. You can put lemon juice in water and drink that most of the time, in case the sodium in baking soda is too much for you. Lemon juice has an alkalizing effect once it moves into your bloodstream.
Raw garlic works on every pathogen; it will dramatically reduce your symptoms unless you still have yeast in your gut, which deflects garlic.
If you don’t get significant relief from raw garlic within an hour, that olive leaf didn’t kill your yeast and you should get another kind.
Bekah, I wrote to your email address and was told it didn’t compute. I sent it to [email protected].
Wow, that’s strange! You’ve got the address correct, and I get multiple e-mails a day typically from other commenters.
Try it again..

And I started another one..

On the “how often” question (Sorry, I can’t see your comment while I’m replying unless I close the browser and go back to my e-mail), I would keep taking raw garlic and drinking baking soda water until the pain is gone.
When I first got my original infection, almost exactly 5 years ago, I got it under control that night just using those two things, and I went from peeing blood every few minutes, doubled over in agony, to falling asleep almost pain-free in less than 2 hours. I probably took 6 cloves of garlic and drank 5 cups of baking soda water, but it stomped that infection so hard I was able to get 6 hours of sleep and wake up to mild discomfort, after having been in total agony the night before.
I felt like I was peeing red-hot razor blades. It was bad.
Raw garlic, freshly cut and swallowed with water, is an incredibly effective emergency pain relief measure, as is baking soda water.
The baking soda water not only raises your pH and discourages the infection, it makes your stomach able to tolerate all that raw garlic, and deodorizes it to some degree, as well.
Hello,
I drank 2 bottles of Komucha one day. One was Cayenne Cleanse. The next morning I voided bloody urine and experienced burning. One week later, the bloody urine stopped, became cloudy, I have a fever of 100.4- 101 degrees. My back hurts on the right side. I had hurt my back earlier during the week, but this is a different pain. I have refused to take any medication for anything since 2012, and I hope I can continue my commitment. I have drank cranberry juice, ACV and water, marshmallow leaf and root tea, dandelion and nettle tea, and goldenseal and echinacea tea. I have bilberry tea, and a tea with a combination of herbs, but also with peppers; therefore I am hesitant to drink it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am sick.
You need quality olive leaf extract, raw garlic, and activated charcoal.
Check out the flowchart linked in my screen name. Go to the end of it. Follow that, except start with one olive leaf capsule per meal the first day and work your way up to four. When you get to three olive leaf capsules per meal, add a clove of raw garlic at each mealtime, too.
I’m presuming, with those suggestions, that you have a yeast overgrowth.
If you don’t think that’s likely, start with two olive leaf and a clove of raw garlic per meal. You should feel significantly better within 90 minutes of the first dose.
If I were you, I’d slam the raw garlic immediately, taking 2 raw cloves, chopped and the pieces swallowed with water like pills, every half hour till the fever and pain are gone. Drink an 8 oz glass of water with 1/2 tsp baking soda each time.
Eat crackers or toast with it. It won’t take very long at all to work; when my infection got that intense I smacked it down with raw garlic and baking soda water in a couple of hours.
Is black garlic having same benefit as raw garlic???
No! Black garlic is carmelized; it’s been cooked. Heat destroys the active ingredient in garlic that makes it an effective pathogen-killer.
Only raw garlic, unheated in any what will help you.
Thanks for your valuable advice . I suffer from UTI and kidney infection from four weeks and tried following alternative treatment i.e D-mannose 1200mg, craneberry extract 400mg, Hibiscus extract 200mg, apple cider vinteger 2tsp, stevia extract in herbal green tea,1/4 teaspoon baking soda in 5 oz plain water but still I have burning sensation and pain around kidney , fever and chill sensation during night so your advice will help me to start new effective treatment .
Some one say me to avoid fermented, sour , spicy and sugary food during UTI so now I am avoiding ACV , CHOCLATE, CITRUS FRUITS
Lemon and lime are fine; they actually alkalize as they pass into your bloodstream, so they’re beneficial for UTI’s.
What you should do right now is chop 2-3 large cloves of garlic and swallow the pieces with water, like pills, no chewing. Chase that with a glass of baking soda water, 1/2 tsp baking soda in 8 oz water. That’s natural emergency pain relief; you’ll start feeling better in 30-40 minutes. 90 minutes after the first time, repeat that dose. By the time that kicks in, your symptoms should be considerably relieved, and you can start taking 2-3 cloves with every meal and get to a health food store for some potent olive leaf extract and activated charcoal!
You want 15-20% oleuropein, 500 mg; Swanson is a good brand. They make charcoal, too.
Take the olive leaf when you eat and take the charcoal 2 hours afterward. Start out with 1-2 olive leaf at a time and 2 charcoal capsules. Keep them alternated, and don’t eat or take anything in the 2 hours before or after taking charcoal. It has to be alone in your system with water ONLY. Lots of water.
E-mail me if you need..

I thought I might have a UTI around 3/12-3/13 because of a urge to urinate and small amount of discomfort. I bought some test strips on 3/14 and it confirmed with positive WB cells but negative nitrites. 3/15 I took another test and both were positive so I bought and started D-mannose, olive leaf, cranberry pills, and cayenne. I have been taking this combo for 4 days (today being 5). I still feel symptomatic but it comes and goes. Like first thing in the AM, I’m uncomfortable, in the afternoon and night, generally no pain. This is the first time I am trying to rid myself of this naturally and I can’t even tell you the last time I had a UTI, so it is generally not an issue I deal with. Has this been too long? What is the typical time frame seen for this holistic treatment?
9am, 1pm, 5pm, 9pm, 1am
Day 1 every 4 hours
1 455 mg cayenne
1 450 mg cranberry
3 500 mg D-mannose
And 1 16 oz cup baking soda mixture
Day 2 every 4 hours
1 455 mg cayenne
1 450 mg cranberry
3 500 mg D-mannose
Day 3 every 4 hours
1 455 mg cayenne
1 450 mg cranberry
3 500 mg D-mannose
1 150 mg olive leaf
4+ 12 oz lemon water
Day 4 every 4 hours
1 455 mg cayenne
1 450 mg cranberry
3 500 mg D-mannose
1 150 mg olive leaf
* water with splash cranberry juice is the only thing I have been drinking throughout this whole process.
I’m sorry I’m only just seeing this comment..
You need to take about 8 of those 150 mg olive leaf capsules each time, not one. Are they 20% oleuropein?
Could you help me treat re occurring proteus mirabilis bacteria? I have had kidney stones and infections constantly and I am now immune to most anti-biotics.
The same treatment that I listed for Kelbsiella will work for Proteus, the combination of cayenne, olive leaf, and raw garlic, with charcoal to mitigate any yeast die-off.
Hi,
Please I really need some help, Ive tested my mothers urine this morning and it shows strong levels of PH with the nitres and leukocytes, I’m not surprised by the niters and the leukocytes as she has bacteria in her urine any way. she got dementia so unable to tell me anything. her strong is the strong smelly, I prompt fluids, anyways. I got some cayenne pepper and baking soda, and some d manrose, I’m just not sure which to try first. please help anyone, muchly appreciated
Take 1/8 tsp of that cayenne and mix it into a spoonful of honey, and give that to her. Then mix 1/4 tsp of the baking soda into 4 oz of water and give that. The baking soda will raise her urine pH, but you want to use lemon juice in water for that most of the time lest the sodium in the baking soda be too much over time.
D-mannose only works if she has E. coli, so I hope that’s what she has. Mix it into water according to directions. She should begin to get relief from all those things within an hour.
thanks Bekah for your reply with the D manrose should I give it to her twice daily which is what it says. I’ll try with the baking soda and have some test strips that I can test her urine in a few hours see if its made a difference.
The bacteria she has in her urine is citrobacter freundii so it makes it difficult to know which bacteria has that causing her urine to be so strong.
D-Mannose won’t do a lick of good, then. The best thing you can try would be olive leaf extract, raw garlic, and cayenne.
You’ll also need to get some activated charcoal into her, at intervals, since she’s probably got a yeast overgrowth complication.
There is an amazing test put out by Pathogenius which I highly recommend for the major 10% of other organisms that show up as UTIS. Pathogenius s able to determine what organisms are in your bladder and the correct treatment for that organism. This test was transformational as it allowed me to treat the specific infections that were not detectable by traditional labs. I highly recommend Pathogenius labs if you are struggling with UTIS and traditional means of treatment are not working.
I have been fighting UTI’s for 2 years-this is all so interesting. Just ordered the olive leaf extract and charcoal. Will start cayenne when I get home today. How do you feel about the candida diet? Is this necessary for continued health? I see a urologist next week-not sure where that will take me, but sure it will not be a natural healing!
For most people who have an average amount of yeast overgrowth, just taking the olive leaf and charcoal is enough to clear it up for you. A dramatic change in diet is only required in about 1 in 12 cases.
can anyone recommend a natural remedy for klebsiella pnemonia uti
